Subject: Re: UNIX tools on Windows
Date: Fri, 8 Nov 2002 17:02:05 -0800
Status: RO
There are now many packages of UNIX tools which run on Windows.
I have personally used the following packages:
Microsoft Services for Windows 3.0
only $99
only runs on latest OS -- XP, NT, 2000
MKS Toolkit 8.0
now $500 ballpark, I think
will run on earlier OS -- 95, 98, ME
mingw32
free -- open source
The free one doesn't include as many commands,
I think about 100 "standard" UNIX commands.
The other two include about 300 "standard" UNIX=20
commands, and conform to POSIX standards.
All three packages include make, each with some=20
minor variations in Makefile rules. If you keep your
Makefiles simple, the differences won't bite you.
